Description
Umton Safflower Oil
Compared to linseed oil, safflower oil is lighter in color, dries more slowly, and exhibits less tendency to yellow over time. It is commonly used in oil painting, particularly as an additive in white paints and other fast drying components.
Cold pressed linseed oil is the most widely used oily oil for thinning oil paints. It dries faster than safflower oil and forms a harder film.
The negative effect of linseed oil is yellowing in older paintings, so if you want to reduce yellowing, it is recommended to use it on darker paints, and on lighter ones to use polymerised linseed oil or thinner. The oil may also be diluted with turpentine or mineral spirits.
